Chance to make smarter choices

National Homes has launched a specialised consultancy design service to help its clients make smarter sustainability choices before building. The new service offers custom home designs or modifications to the builder’s standard range to incorporate sustainable design principles.
“This is a complete complimentary planning service,” explained National Homes brand manager Tony Harvie. “Our ‘Green Team’, who collectively have more than 15 years experience specialising in sustainable design and construction, will guide you through the basics such as choosing a block with the ideal orientation.
“Then they work closely with our clients to tailor a home design with the right level of sustainable inclusions to suit their lifestyle.” Mr Harvie said that the sustainable design process focused on three main considerations to deliver maximum long-term benefits to occupants.
“This includes: economic sustainability, which helps save money over the lifetime of the home through reduced household operating costs; social sustainability, which determines how comfortable, useable and accessible the home is to all, regardless of age and mobility; and environmental sustainability to maximise energy efficiency and minimise waste.
“A balanced combination of these elements not only makes the home more eco-friendly but also adds to the home’s resale value.” These three main considerations could be tailored to suit homebuyers’ individual circumstances, he added.
“Not everyone is ready for the full sustainable fit-out from the outset. For example, they may not be at the stage where they want the full greywater recycling amenity. “However, if the pipes are laid during construction it’s a simple hook -up exercise later and clients don’t have to go through major renovations.”
