Sustainable Construction

banner-nd-sustainableconstructionAt National Homes, we pride ourselves on using innovative, environmentally friendly materials and construction methods to create you a sustainable home. We understand the importance of sustainability in construction, not only to preserve our precious resources, but also to save you money on your energy bills.

HOME ORIENTATION

By considering the orientation of your home on your block, you can increase the energy and thermal efficiency of your home. A home that is correctly positioned on a block will take advantage of the cool breezes and eliminate direct sunlight, making it more comfortable to live in. This will also reduce the need for auxiliary heating and cooling in your home, reducing your energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions.

All National Homes Design Consultants have completed training on how to increase a home's thermal efficiency and can help you ensure that your home is optimally orientated on your homesite.

SOLAR POWER GENERATION IN YOUR HOME

Every National Home in the Signature Series comes standard with a 1.5kW PV solar power generation system, using sunlight to generate electricity for use in your home and allowing you to offset increasing energy bills with clean, green electricity. By harnessing a renewable energy source like solar, homes with a solar PV system can also reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

A 1.5kW solar PV system can also add up to $13,000 to the value of a new home, making your home more attractive to purchasers should you wish to on-sell in the future. With a home's energy efficiency becoming more and more important to West Australians, a solar PV generation system will not only add value to your home, but also save you money on the running costs.

Our solar generation systems are provided by MySolar, Western Australia's premier solar company for the building industry. For more information on how solar power works or how it can benefit your home, please ask your New Home Design Consultant, or visit www.mysolar.com.au.

SOLAR GAS BOOSTED HOT WATER

Solar Hot Water units use the heat energy from sunlight to heat the water for your home. By using the suns free heat energy instead of buying gas or electricity to heat your water, you can save around $540 per year in household energy bills (source: Department of Natural Resources).

To ensure you have a continuous supply of hot water, your solar hot water system also comes with a gas booster for days when you need more hot water than the sun can provide. This is the most environmentally friendly way to boost your system as required.

Every National Home comes standard with a 300L gas boosted solar hot water system from MySolar, Western Australia's premier solar company for the building industry. For more information on how a solar hot water system works, or how it can benefit your home, please ask your New Home Design Consultant, or visit www.mysolar.com.au.

With a 4-star WELS rating, this toilet suite has been carefully selected for its sustainable properties and is included as standard in every National Home.

SOLAR EFFICIENT EAVES

The eaves on your home have two purposes - to shelter windows and walls from sun in the summer and rain in the winter. To ensure your new home is passive solar efficient, National Homes includes solar efficient eaves to the total living area.
